Rwanda Trading Company (RTC), founded in 2009, focuses on creating positive social change by empowering smallholder farmers. The company processes 25% of Rwanda’s annual coffee and ensures that over 80% of their coffee is fully traceable to the farmer. Since taking over the remote Mwito Central Washing Station in 2017, RTC has worked to improve local farming conditions by providing agronomy training, creating a farmer registry, and establishing a kindergarten for the children of coffee farmers. RTC also maintains cows at the station to provide organic fertilizer and milk to support the community.
The coffee from this region is exceptional, with vibrant notes of raspberry, pineapple, and caramel, offering a delightful balance of fruity sweetness and a rich, smooth finish. The beans are of the Red Bourbon variety, known for its bright acidity and full-bodied profile, which contributes to the unique flavors found in this coffee.
