Bernard Uwitije, the owner of Bwenda, is from Nyamagabe in Southern Rwanda, a region known for its coffee production. He started by trading locally processed coffee, then moved into washed coffee processing. In 2016, Bernard opened his first wet mill near his hometown and spent a year learning the process. The following year, he opened a second station to improve his ability to process larger volumes while maintaining quality.
In 2018, Bernard founded Bwenda after realizing that many isolated farmers lacked access to quality coffee processing. The first season in 2019 saw only one container of cherries processed, but since then, Bernard has been focused on supporting local farmers through extension services and expanding the wet mill’s capacity.
This coffee from Bwenda offers a smooth and sweet cup with vibrant notes of nectarine, vanilla, and a creamy finish, making for a delightful and delicate experience.
